Buying Skills with x Skill Points
Here's the basic idea behind this suggestion:
I was on my necro the other day. and noticed he has 120 skill points. and there's not much use for them.
so i thought.. perhaps it would be a good idea if you could spend say 10 skill points. to unlock/gain a skill on your PvE charecters.
i think it would be a great idea personaly. implement a comand or an NPC to spend skill points and get a skill, similar to the way hero skill points work, only with all skills. so that you can, if you like, get all the skills for most used charecters. without having to spend alot of money at the skill trainers
honestly i don't see a bad point to it and think it would be extremly usfull for people to play a higher variaty of builds

This should help get rid of a lot of excess skill points that a lot of people are complaining about without having them spend money on the skills.

/signed i would love this i could then go capping elites without spending a billion gold, and have a use for all those skill points.

Hrm, could be a good way to get rid of all those skill points but I don't really like the idea.

10 skill points is too much. Maybe 3.
Maybe if this was implemented, people would actually care about reaching the next skill point.

10 isn't too much. I know many people who have 500+ skill points sitting around. This would be a good idea.

Yeah but people with 500+ skill points probably already have all the skills they need. I know I do.

I have tons on my warrior and barely any skills cause I'm dirt poor. 10 skill points compared to 1 plat is fair to me.

IDK the way I unlock stuff is make a new character and then unlock skills up to 900 gold cost. then dump them and redo again. once I can gte no more skills in this way, I start using skill points and gold for a while at 1k each.
And caps of course
and last balthazars faction with tomes...
My personal pref would be to allow to exchange skill points for Tomes... then you can chose stuff you have unlocked...
Plus this will also support more people buying the PVP UAS packs...
Then instead of requiring several thousand gold per character to unlock what you want for PvE, you can just trade out skill points for tomes and get what you want. Just my opinion...
ingy.

As you eluded to in the OP you can trade your skill points in for Hero Skills if you have no Hero Skill points, which then unlock those skills on your account. It costs 1K and will only unlock the range of skills available at the Hero Skill trainer. I've no idea how many skills that encompasses but it's Nightfall only. I'd support the same model for GW:EN but i can't see it happening for Prophecies or Factions any time soon.
By far the quickest and easiest way is to add PvP unlock packs to your PvE account. All skills including Elites become unlocked for your Heroes. For your toon use tomes to grab the ones you need - you can pick up normals for 500g or less. It does cost a few real life bucks, but i found it to be a worthwhile investment compared to the many hours and plat i saved capping normal skills, or waiting until i reach a late-game Skills trainer or boss to unlock a skill i wanted from the start.

If;
x= no. of skill points; and
y= total cost for the skill,
then I'd be happy with y=1250-250x
For those who don't understand that equation, here's how things would work;
1 skill point - 1k
2 skill points - 750g
3 skill points - 500g
4 skill points - 250g
5 skill points - Free
I'm satisifed with that. /signed. I still want Signets of Lesser Capture though.
BTW, in regards to the skill points for tomes idea, this would just lead to a massive tome sale, and if there's 100,000 elementalist tomes selling for 200g each, how many people are going to go to the skill trader?

So basically what your saying in really short:
Skillpoints are account based and can be traded @ skilltrainer for 1 plat + 1 skill point or 10 skillpoints for 1 skill.
Sounds good with GWEN coming soon. Ive got some charaters with a load of skillpoints my others can use..

Best way would be simple, to learn new skills, like heoes do.
u have a skill point and learn a normal skill from the NPC for FREE
only when u buy signet for elite skills, they will cost direct 1 P ever.
And ever when u've learned a normal Skill from the skill trainer NPC, the learned skill will disappear out of the list, so that u see only then the rest of skill, that u'ven't learned yet.
Then we would have exactly the same NPC, as for the hero-skills and theoretically we could kill then 1 our npc, because we would need only 1 NPC then, which gives us automatically skills for us and our heroes together.
In the moment its nothing else, when u get ur heroes to learn a skill by the hero skil trainer, the learned skill will be learned by ur own chara too in the same time.
This would be the perfect solution for everybody and espcially for all perma poor people.
Because most of all skills are all normal skills and to pay for a normal skill later 1 Platin, with that u could get 1 elite skill in other ways is just weird.
When the cost for normal skills for example would not raise over 250g, that would be ok, but paying 1P for a plain stupid normal skill is just stupid.
Pay more SP simple to get stuff free ist stupid too, espcially for all newer players which have not so much points, that they are willing to spent ever direct 10 points only for not having to pay the 1 Platin ... this makes absolutely no sense, because before i've grinded me 10 SP, i made easily with simple normal playing and loot selling 30-50 Platin in the time before i reached 10 more SP
There should be other ways for too much Skill Points, especially when u have learned every single skill of every class inclusive the elites.
Why not exchange not nessesscary points for money for example or for unique armors/weapons/runes and so on.
Example:
Ive learned every single skill, have +300 SP over, that i cant use for anything.
Now i talk to the NPC, he says then to me:
"Wow, ur unbelieveable, u've learned everything i could teach u ..blah bla blup"
gives me then a quest to find an instanced personal smith, which will only then appear, so that no rush kiddies can get to it, before they've learned everything *gg*. and at that NPC smith i can then forge for example finally REAL unique weapons for exchange of some platin and instead of materials then big sums of skill points *u must be skilled to weer ur absolutly unique own weapon XD*
Absolute Unique Weapons r then in the Color "dark blue" and the special thing is, that u can give ur own weapon its own skin 8there will be then scroll bar with skin choices and in the auto preview u can look then the skins, as if u see the auto preview, when u want to dye ur armor.
AUW's will be automatically refined to ur character and are unsellable/untradeable but they get account based and reproducable by the command /unique, then u'll receive ever a copy of the last AUW u've made for ur momantanous character, which has used /unique
AUW's will be automatically perfect basic weapons, u can choose, which bonusses they should have and to which attribute they should belong, but AUW's r ONLY for PvE !!!.
Example:
I'm at that NPC, want him now to forge my my beloved sword of wish
First i choose the kind of weapon, so sword ... then the skin of the Blade ..
I want it now to look like a flamberge, then i choose the skin of the hilt to complete my sword. After that i can givy my sword some bonis (more boni = bigger cost of SP)
After that i give my creation a name and pay then for example 15 P + 50 Skill Points for each bonus the weapon should get.
Ill create for example now this:
Excalibur
15-22 Holy Damage (Req. 8 Swordmanship)
+15% Damage (when enchanted)
+15% Damage when HP >50%
+20% Damage vs. Undeads and Spirits
Lenghthens Enchantments Duration + 20%
Energy + 5
Id pay for this example now also 15 Platin + 250 SP. .. enabling this and players would a chance have to make their own ultimative weapons.
I'd die for a sword like this XD

/signed -- it's EXPENSIVE getting skills for chars. especially now that less gold drops, and it is VERY hard to sell etc.

Skill points were (and still are) a total mystery to me. They seem to serve no purpose whatsoever.
Other than (rarely) at the very start of the game, has anyone EVER run out of skill points?

yes actually, about a year an a half ago skill points were hard to come by till you did solo farming, i remember having to do bonuses just to get a skill point. but now they are trivial thanks to hard mode and just general changes.
